July 13

It rained with thunder and lightning through the night off and on, but we all slept pretty well since we were exhausted and the temperature is MUCH cooler. Got up around 7am and hit the bathrooms so we could get on the road. On the way back to the camper, we saw a group of tiny rabbits chasing each other in circles in a field by the road.

Started driving with the rain still going, but not as bad as last night, thankfully. Stopped for breakfast after about 2 hours at a rest stop. Coffee and tea welcome as it is a little chilly and overcast. Thankfully several hours later the sun came out and the temperature went up a bit so it is now quite comfortable. We're making good time up through Bordeaux area. We hope to be near Nantes by dinner time. It's now about 4pm and we stopped for lunch about 1 hour ago at a rest stop -- had a sit down lunch which was nice. You know you're at a rest stop in France and not in the US when the rest stop restaurant has duck, salmon and lamb -- and the salad bar in the rest stop has eight kinds of fresh apricot desserts, all home made (apricots are in season it would seem).

I'm posting this from a hotel lobby in the rest stop -- Jim is taking a quick nap before we move on. The hotel has free wifi - and I'm able to charge my laptop for first time in about 2 days -- which is good because I am seriously hooked on the Doris Kearns Goodwin book about President Lincoln. :-)

Will try to post soon but will probably be tomorrow -- we won't stay longterm in the campground where we stop tonight -- we will still have to drive some more up into Brittany proper.
